Abstract

PURPOSE: Enzymes are fixed on fibers by dipping aminoacetalized polvinyl alcohol fibers into an aqueous enzyme solutions to produce novel and easy-to-handle title fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A polyvinyl alcohol is aminoacetalized by the reaction with an aldehyde having amino or substituted amono groups. The polymer is spun into fibers and preferably drawn and heat set so that the ratio of equilibrium swelling is controlled to 1.5W5 in water at 30°C. Then, desirably the fibers are treated with a 0.2W3 N acid aqueous solution for increasing the yield of fixed enzyme and then dipped in an aqueous solution of enzyme such as glucose isomerase to produce enzyme-fixed fibers. The acetalization of polyvinyl alcohol may be conducted after spinning.
