Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title hollow fiber of circular cross-section with a high strength, by extruding cellulose acetate solution through an outer slit of a double pipe mozzle and an ester solution through an inner pipe to coagulate the solution, and by hydrolyzing the fiber.
CONSTITUTION: A cellulose acetate solution is extruded through the annular slit of a double-pipe nozzle; an ester of a fatty acid from the inner pipe. The composite extrudate is coagulated in an aqueous coagulation bath, and hydrolyzed in an alkaline medium to give the desired hollow regenerated cellulose fiber. A water- soluble solvent, e.g. dimethyl-formamide, containing 15 wt% or less of water and with a boiling point ≤ 100°C is preferably used as the solvent for cellulose acetate. A4-30 C ester of fatty acid, e.g. methyl oleate, is preferably used as the core material.
