Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a golf ball whose resiliency is much increased by applying an alkaline silicate solution to the core of a golf ball under particular conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An alkaline silicate solution having a R2O/SiO2 (R: alkaline metal ratio matal) of 1:0.5 to 1:8 if formed into a ball having a diameter of 27mm to 31mm and coated with a high molecule material of 2mm of less thick on the surface. A core material thus formed is then wound with a resilient rubber for golf balls to a thickness of 3mm or more. The resulting ball is used as a nucleus of a golf ball. The core material is added with 5% vol. or less of inorganic or organic filler to balance the specific gravity. In addition to the alkaline silicate solution and the filler, the core material has boracic acid and/or borate compound mixed thereinto so that the amount of B2O3 is of 15% wt. or less of the solid silicate contained in the solution. Thus composed core material is heated for reaction with a resulting water ratio of 39 to 40% wt. and then formed into a ball as describedf above.
