Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain magnetic iron oxide for seed coat which is of good adhesiveness to seeds, good magnetizability, and good discriminativity from soil by the procedure in which magnetic iron oxide of a specific grain size is separated out of a solution containing a Fe salt, e.g., FeSO4, etc., and then the precipitate or wet(dry) cake, is heated under a specific condition, when gringing is made before and after heating.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic iron oxide of a grain size of less than 2 microns is separated out of a solution containing a Fe salt, e.g., FeSO4, etc., and then the wet(dry) cake separated in heated a temperature above 120°C at which the relative magnetizating susceptibility of iron oxide can be kept to 20 or more. In this case, grinding is made before and after heating more than one time, and also the oxidizing rate of iron oxide before and during heating is kept to more than 85%, preferably more than 90%.
