Abstract

PURPOSE: The title reactor for methanation capable of giving a gas with a high methane content, designed to remove the heat of exothermic reaction produced in the catalyst layer by heat pipes and to accelerate the reaction while maintaining the gas temperature low and constant.
CONSTITUTION: The heat pipes 2 are inserted along the sheath pipes 3 into the catalyst layer 1 and also the water chamber 5 fixed by the partition plate 4. The heat of exothermic reaction produced in the catalyst layer 1 is transferred to the water chamber 5 by the heat transfer effect of the pipes 2 to generate steam and to release the heat. The gas to be reformed or methanized is fed from the inlet nozzle 18 through the packings 9 to the catalyst layer 1, and the reformed or methanized gas after the completion of the reaction is passed from the bottom packings 9' and taken out of the outlet nozzle 10.
