Abstract

PURPOSE:To make work distortions less than those by machining methods and improve the reproduction output in a high frequency region by specifying the effective track width of magnetic heads by an etching method. CONSTITUTION:Resist films 2b, etc. of a specified width are coated in plural rows on a ferrite wafer 1 and the wafer is etched therethrough. After the resists are removed, gap spacer films 6a thru 6b of a desired thickness are deposited, thence grooves 7a, 7b, etc. are formed in the intermediate positions of the adjoining gap constituting faces by working with a cutter and also glass inserting grooves 8a thru 8c and winding grooves 9a, 9b are formed. On the other hand, another sheet of wafer is similarly formed (except that the spacer grooves, glass inserting grooves and winding grooves are not provided) and is then butted to the abovementioned wafer. After glasses 10a thru 10e are inserted into the grooves 8a thru 8c formed with both wafers and are then fused, the assembly is cut at A-A', B-B', C-C' and the tape contact faces are depth-worked to be rounded, thence the assembly is cut at D-D', E-E', etc. to obtain the individual head cores.
