Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable low reflection loss of about several % to 10% to be achieved by applying the theory of interference thin films on optics to the layer constitution of electrochromic elements and considering the phase conditions and amplitude conditions for prevention of reflection.
CONSTITUTION: A transparent electrode layer I, a colored layer II such as WO3, an ion conductivity insulation layer III such as SiO2, a transparent electrode layer IV similar to the layer I are subsequently laminated on a transparent galss substrate S, whereby an all solid-state type electrochromic element is formed. Here, the film thicknesses are combined and set in such a manner that a low reflectance R may be obtained in the entire visible light region, with the phase conditions nd=(2m-1)λ0/4(m is integer) and amplitude conditions n=(n5n0)1/2(n5 is refractive index of substrates; n0 is refractive index of the atmosphere) for reflection prevention of a reference wavelength λ0 in the case of a single layer film of a film thickness and as a reference.
