Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an organic polyisocyanate useful as a raw material for coating meterials, having improved long-term storage stability, by reacting an excess of an aliphatic, alicyclic, or aromatic aliphatic diisocyanate with water in a specific mixed solvent.
CONSTITUTION: An excess of an aliphatic, alicyclic, or aromatic aliphatic diisocyanate, e.g. hexamethylene diisocyanate, is reacted with water in a mixed solvent consisting of a combination of (a) at least one type of an ethylene glycol derivative of formula (R1 and R2 are 1W4C alkyl or acetyl groups; n is 1 or 2), e.g. ethylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, and (b) triethyl phosphate alone or its mixture with trimethyl phosphate to give the objective compound.
EFFECT: Formation of polyurea as a byproduct is suppressed, and liberation of monomers is prevented.
USE: High polymer modifiers, textile finishes, adhesives, etc.
