Abstract
1275903 Collapsible containers; packaging; caps for containers T J SMITH & NEPHEW Ltd 26 Aug 1969 [27 Aug 1968] 40959/68 Headings B8C B8D and B8T A single dose medicament dispenser 28 comprises an injection-moulded polyethylene or polypropylene frusto-conical body 10 which is provided at its narrower end with an integral tubular nozzle 12 sealed by a removable cap 14 of the same or different material and which is closed at its wide end after filling by flattening and heat sealing the body walls together. The filled dispenser is sealed in an outer wrapper 24 comprising two sheets heat-sealed or adhered together along lines 32 inwards of the sheet edges, the formed package being then sterilized. One wrapper sheet is of porous bleached kraft paper and the other of transparent plastics, e.g. polypropylene, when the package is to be sterilized by steam autoclaving or both sheets may be of plastics material when the package is to be sterilized by electron irradiation. Alternatively the dispenser may be sealed in a blistertype pack consisting of a vacuum-shaped polypropylene sheet heat-sealed to steam-permeable kraft paper. The cap is formed with a spigot 20 adapted to sealingly fit within the rounded end of the nozzle 13. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the cap is provided with internal sealing ribs 36 and an internal chamfer 38 where it projects beyond the tubular nozzle. The dispenser may have a capacity from ¢ ml. to 5 ml. The contained medicament may be sodium chloride, sodium sulfacetamide or salts of atropine, amethocaine, benoxoxinate, ephedrine, fluorescein, homatropine, hyosine, neomycin, pilocarpine, phenylephrine and cyclopentolate.
