Description
本発明は、超高分子量ポリエチレン(UHMW−PE)ヤーンの製造方法、並びにヤーン及びそれから製造される物品に関する。
(a)部分配向繊維のそれぞれが繊維表面仕上げ剤によって実質的に被覆されている表面を有する、1以上の部分配向繊維を与える工程;
(b)繊維表面から繊維表面仕上げ剤の少なくとも一部を除去して、下層の繊維表面を少なくとも部分的に露出させる工程;
(c)露出された繊維表面を、繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させるのに有効な条件下で処理する工程;
(d)処理された繊維表面の少なくとも一部の上に保護被覆を施して、それによって処理されて被覆された繊維を形成する工程;及び
(e)処理されて被覆された繊維を1以上の乾燥機に通して、処理されて被覆された繊維上の被覆を乾燥し、一方同時に、処理されて被覆された繊維を、それが1以上の乾燥機を通って移動する間に延伸して、それによって27g/デニールより高いテナシティーを有する高配向繊維を形成する工程
を含む方法を提供する。
(a)部分配向繊維のそれぞれが繊維表面仕上げ剤を少なくとも部分的に含まない少なくとも幾つかの露出された表面領域を有する、1以上の部分配向繊維を与える工程;
(b)露出された繊維表面を、繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させるのに有効な条件下で処理する工程;

を含む方法も提供する。
(a)部分配向繊維が少なくとも約18g/デニールで約27g/デニール以下のテナシティーを有し、処理された部分配向繊維の表面が繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させるのに有効な条件下で処理されている、1以上の処理された部分配向繊維を与える工程;
(b)処理された繊維表面の少なくとも一部の上に保護被覆を施して、それによって処理されて被覆された繊維を形成する工程であって、ここで保護被覆は繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させる処理の直後に処理された繊維表面の上に施す、前記工程;及び
(c)処理されて被覆された繊維を1以上の乾燥機に通して、処理されて被覆された繊維上の被覆を乾燥し、一方同時に、処理されて被覆された繊維を、それが1以上の乾燥機を通って移動する間に延伸して、それによって27g/デニールより高いテナシティーを有する高配向繊維を形成する工程
を含む方法を提供する。
本発明の実施例1:
4本の3300デニール部分配向UHMW−PEヤーンを4つのスプールから6.7m/分の速度で解舒し、洗浄して先に存在している仕上げ剤をヤーンから除去した。ヤーンを洗浄するために、これらをまず脱イオン水を含む予備浸漬水浴を通して送り、浴中の大凡の滞留時間は約18秒間であった。予備浸漬水浴から排出した後、水ノズルを用い、約42psiの水圧で、1分あたりノズルあたり約0.5ガロンの水流速でヤーンをすすいだ。水温は28.9℃と測定された。次に、洗浄したヤーンを乾燥し、プラズマ処理した。プラズマ処理は、ヤーンを、90%のアルゴン及び10%の酸素を含む雰囲気を有する大気プラズマ処理装置(モデル:Enercon Plasma3 Station Model APT12DF-150/2;Enercon Industries Corp.から;幅29インチの電極を有する)に、約6m/分の速度で通過させることによって行った。プラズマ処理装置は2kWの出力に設定して、それによって54W/ft2/分のエネルギーフラックスでヤーンを処理した。プラズマ処理装置内におけるヤーンの滞留時間は約2秒間であった。処理は標準大気圧下で行った。次に、プラズマ処理したヤーンを、水性のアニオン性脂肪族ポリエステル系ポリウレタン分散液で被覆した。ポリウレタン被覆重量は、被覆の重量+ヤーンの重量を基準として2%であった。次に、ヤーンを150℃のオーブン温度を有する加熱オーブン中に送ってこれを通過させ、被覆されたヤーンを4.4m/分の延伸比で延伸してそれらを高配向ヤーンに加工し、一方同時にヤーン上のポリウレタン被覆を乾燥した。次に、それぞれの乾燥した高配向ヤーンを29.5m/分の速度で新しいスプール上に再び巻き取った。次に、それぞれの高配向ヤーンの最終のデニール、引張弾性率、及びテナシティーを測定した。高配向ヤーンの平均最終デニールは754であった。それぞれの高配向ヤーンの平均最終引張弾性率は1551g/デニールであり、それぞれの高配向ヤーンの平均最終テナシティーは48.2g/デニールであった。
本発明の実施例1と同様に、4本の3300デニール部分配向UHMW−PEヤーンを4つの繊維スプールから6.7m/分の速度で解舒した。しかしながら、これらのヤーンは、洗浄して先に存在している仕上げ剤を除去せず、プラズマ処理もしなかった。
これらの実施例によって示されるように、本発明方法にしたがって処理及び被覆したヤーンは、未処理のヤーンの特性とほぼ同等の最終の物理特性を有する。ヤーンの洗浄及びプラズマ処理、並びにプラズマ処理を時間経過に伴う減衰から保護する被覆の結果として、本発明方法にしたがって処理及び被覆した繊維は、将来の使用のために数週間貯蔵することができ、プラズマ処理の直後に耐弾性複合材料に加工した繊維と同じように機能すると予測することができると結論づけることができる。
本発明の具体的態様は以下のとおりである。
[1](a)部分配向繊維のそれぞれが繊維表面仕上げ剤によって実質的に被覆されている表面を有する、1以上の部分配向繊維を与える工程;
(b)繊維表面から繊維表面仕上げ剤の少なくとも一部を除去して、下層の繊維表面を少なくとも部分的に露出させる工程;
(c)露出された繊維表面を、繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させるのに有効な条件下で処理する工程;
(d)処理された繊維表面の少なくとも一部の上に保護被覆を施して、それによって処理されて被覆された繊維を形成する工程;及び
(e)処理されて被覆された繊維を1以上の乾燥機に通して、処理されて被覆された繊維上の被覆を乾燥し、一方同時に、処理されて被覆された繊維を、それが1以上の乾燥機を通って移動する間に延伸して、それによって27g/デニールより高いテナシティーを有する高配向繊維を形成する工程
を含む方法。
[2]部分配向繊維が少なくとも約18g/デニールで約27g/デニール以下のテナシティーを有する、[1]に記載の方法。
[3]工程(c)の処理工程がコロナ処理又はプラズマ処理を含む、[1]に記載の方法。
[4]保護被覆が、繊維の重量+保護被覆の重量を基準として約5重量%未満を構成する、[1]に記載の方法。
[5]工程(e)において製造される複数の高配向繊維を与える工程、場合によっては繊維の少なくとも一部の上にポリマーバインダー材料を施す工程、及び複数の繊維から織布又は不織布を製造する工程を含む、[1]に記載の方法。
[6][5]に記載の方法によって製造される繊維複合材料。
[7](a)部分配向繊維のそれぞれが繊維表面仕上げ剤を少なくとも部分的に含まない少なくとも幾つかの露出された表面領域を有する、1以上の部分配向繊維を与える工程;
(b)露出された繊維表面を、繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させるのに有効な条件下で処理する工程;
(c)処理された繊維表面の少なくとも一部の上に保護被覆を施して、それによって処理されて被覆された繊維を形成する工程;及び
(d)処理されて被覆された繊維を1以上の乾燥機に通して、処理されて被覆された繊維上の被覆を乾燥し、一方同時に、処理されて被覆された繊維を、それが1以上の乾燥機を通って移動する間に延伸して、それによって27g/デニールより高いテナシティーを有する高配向繊維を形成する工程
を含む方法。
[8]部分配向繊維が少なくとも約18g/デニールで約27g/デニール以下のテナシティーを有する、[7]に記載の方法。
[9]工程(b)の処理工程がコロナ処理又はプラズマ処理を含む、[7]に記載の方法。
[10](a)部分配向繊維が少なくとも約18g/デニールで約27g/デニール以下のテナシティーを有し、処理された部分配向繊維の表面が繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させるのに有効な条件下で処理されている、1以上の処理された部分配向繊維を与える工程;
(b)処理された繊維表面の少なくとも一部の上に保護被覆を施して、それによって処理されて被覆された繊維を形成する工程であって、ここで保護被覆は繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させる処理の直後に処理された繊維表面の上に施す、前記工程;及び
(c)処理されて被覆された繊維を1以上の乾燥機に通して、処理されて被覆された繊維上の被覆を乾燥し、一方同時に、処理されて被覆された繊維を、それが1以上の乾燥機を通って移動する間に延伸して、それによって27g/デニールより高いテナシティーを有する高配向繊維を形成する工程

Claims (3)
- (a)部分配向繊維のそれぞれが繊維表面仕上げ剤によって実質的に被覆されている表面を有する、1以上の部分配向繊維を与える工程;
(b)繊維表面から繊維表面仕上げ剤の少なくとも一部を除去して、下層の繊維表面を少なくとも部分的に露出させる工程;
(c)露出された繊維表面を、繊維表面の表面エネルギーを増大させるのに有効な条件下で処理する工程;
(d)処理された繊維表面の少なくとも一部の上に保護被覆を施して、それによって処理されて被覆された繊維を形成する工程;及び
(e)処理されて被覆された繊維を1以上の乾燥機に通して、処理されて被覆された繊維上の被覆を乾燥し、一方同時に、処理されて被覆された繊維を、それが1以上の乾燥機を通って移動する間に延伸して、それによって27g/デニールより高いテナシティーを有する高配向繊維を形成する工程
を含む方法。 - (a)部分配向繊維のそれぞれが繊維表面仕上げ剤を少なくとも部分的に含まない少なくとも幾つかの露出された表面領域を有する、1以上の部分配向繊維を与える工程;
