n1sin(θ1)=n2sin(θ2)
この式では、n1は、第1の媒体(導波管)内の屈折率であり、θ1は、第1の媒体における境界での入射角であり、n2は、第2の媒体(周囲)内の屈折率であり、θ2は、第2の媒体における境界での入射角である。n1>n2の場合、θ1が大きい場合にスネルの法則に対する解がない。上記の臨界角θC(θC=arcsin(n2/n1))であり、これは、第1の媒体からの境界に当たる光ビームは、光が表面を通過することなく、全て反射されることを意味する。
(i)強度と角度の関係を示す強度プロット。角度は、πラジアン(−1から+1)で示され、強度は、平面への正規化された光線方向ベクトルの投影としてプロットされる。従って、平面に垂直な光線の強度は、図の中心にプロットされ、平面に平行な光線の強度は、常に半径1の円上にある。
(ii)C方向(導波管の長さに沿った方向)及びA方向(導波管の幅に沿った方向)での強度プロットの中心を通る強度をそれぞれ示す図。
(iii)受光表面からの距離と強度の関係を示す強度プロット。距離は、導波管の中心からmmで付与される。光は、z=−10mmで導波管内に導入される。
(iv)z方向(導波管の長さに沿った方向)及びx方向(導波管の幅に沿った方向)での強度プロットの中心を通る強度を示す図。
次の特性を有する図1に示すような導波管プレートが、空気により囲まれた環境で、コンピューターシミュレーションでシミュレートされた。
実施例1で用いられた種類の導波管プレートが2つ、図2による配置で配置され、反射面が、導波管プレートの裏面に配置される。これらのプレートのファセット表面は、互いに0.018mmの距離で配置された(即ち、表面は、正確に1ファセットピッチで配置された)。
実施例1で用いられたものと同一の導波管プレートが用いられ、導波管プレートの前面に配置されるBEFフォイルが追加された。
Claims (8)
- バックライト構造を含むデュアルビューディスプレイ装置であって、前記バックライト構造は、第1及び第2の光源と、互いに上下になるように配置される少なくとも第1及び第2の導波管プレートであって、前面、及び、反対側の背面、並びに、前記第1の光源又は前記第2の光源から光を受けると共に前記前面と背面を結ぶ少なくとも1つの受光表面をそれぞれ備える少なくとも第1及び第2の導波管プレートとを含み、
前記第1の光源は、前記第1の導波管プレートの受光表面に第1の角度方向の広がりを有する光を供給し、前記第2の光源は、前記第2の導波管プレートの受光表面に第2の角度方向の広がりを有する光を供給し、
前記第1及び第2の導波管プレートのそれぞれに関して、前記前面及び背面の少なくとも一方は、複数の平面状の平行な部位、及び、該平面状の平行な部位を繋ぐ複数のファセットを含むファセット表面であり、前記複数のファセットは、前記導波管プレートの厚さが前記受光表面からの距離の増加に伴い段階的に減少するような態様で、且つ、前記受光表面を介して前記導波管プレートに受けられる光の少なくとも一部が前記複数のファセットを介して該導波管プレートから取り出されるような態様で、形成され、
前記第1の導波管プレートから取り出される光は、第1方向に第1の角度範囲を有し、前記第2の導波管プレートから取り出される光は、第2方向に第2の角度範囲を有し、該第1及び第2の角度範囲が、当該デュアルビューディスプレイ装置の第1及び第2の鑑賞角度範囲に相当する、
デュアルビューディスプレイ装置。 - 前記ファセットは、前記平面状の平行な部位の表面に対して70°〜110°の範囲の角度βで形成される、請求項1に記載のデュアルビューディスプレイ装置。
- 前記ファセットのそれぞれは、前記平面状の平行な部位の表面に対して垂直に形成される、請求項1に記載のデュアルビューディスプレイ装置。
- 前記第1の導波管プレートの受光表面及び前記第2の導波管プレートの受光表面は、互いに平行で且つ反対の向きで配置される、請求項1に記載のデュアルビューディスプレイ装置。
- 前記第1の導波管プレートのファセット表面は、前記第2の導波管プレートのファセット表面に対向する、請求項3又は4に記載のデュアルビューディスプレイ装置。
- 前記第1の導波管プレートのファセット表面は、前記第2の導波管プレートのファセット表面から、少なくとも該導波管プレートのファセットの高さに対応する距離だけ離間される、請求項5に記載のデュアルビューディスプレイ装置。
- 前記バックライト構造は、ディスプレイパネルに対向する表側と反対の裏側を有し、反射性要素が、前記裏側に配置される、請求項1〜6のうちのいずれか1項に記載のデュアルビューディスプレイ装置。
- 前記バックライト構造は、ディスプレイパネルに対向する表側と反対の裏側を有し、屈折性要素が、前記表側に配置される、請求項1〜7のうちのいずれか1項に記載のデュアルビューディスプレイ装置。
