Description
そこで本発明は以上の点に鑑みてなされたものであり、近接場光及び磁界の広がりを抑制して書き込みの信頼性を向上することができる近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド及びそれを用いた記録装置を提供することを目的とする。
以下、本発明に係る近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド及びそれを用いた記録装置の第1実施形態を、図1から図7を参照して説明する。本実施形態の記録装置1は、図1に示すように、近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド2と、ディスクDの面(磁気記録媒体の表面)に平行な方向に移動可能とされ、ディスクDの面に平行で且つ互いに直交する2軸(X軸、Y軸とする)回りに回動自在な状態で近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド2を先端側で支持するサスペンションアーム3と、光導波路4の基端側から該光導波路4に対して光束を入射させる光信号コントローラー(光源)5と、サスペンションアーム3の基端側を支持すると共に、サスペンションアーム3をディスクDの面に平行なXY方向に向けてスキャン移動させるアクチュエーター6と、ディスクを一定方向に回転させるスピンドルモーター(回転駆動部)7と、情報に応じて変調した電流を近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド2に対して供給すると共に、光信号コントローラー5の作動を制御する制御部(図示略)と、これら各構成品を内部に収容するハウジング8とを備えている。

Claims (8)
- 先端に近接場光を発生させる錐状ティップと、前記近接場光によって加熱された媒体表面の微小領域に磁界を与えることにより前記微小領域に磁化反転を生じさせる磁気記録素子とを持つ近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッドであって、
前記磁気記録素子は、前記媒体表面に対して略垂直方向に磁界を与える主磁極と、前記主磁極から与えられた磁界の一部を吸収する副磁極と、前記主磁極と前記副磁極との間に配置される絶縁膜とを含み、
前記錐状ティップは、前記媒体表面と向い合う前記先端において前記近接場光を発生させる開口部と、前記開口部を囲む縁部分の少なくとも一部を構成する第一側面とを含み、
前記主磁極は、前記第一側面に配置される第一薄膜を含み、
前記副磁極は、前記第一薄膜の両側のうち、前記第一側面が配置されている側とは逆側に配置され、前記主磁極および前記開口部を取り囲むように配置されており、
前記絶縁膜は、前記第一薄膜と前記副磁極との間に配置されることを特徴とする近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド。 - 前記絶縁膜は、前記第一薄膜と、前記錐状ティップの側面のうち前記第一側面以外の全ての側面とを覆い、
前記副磁極は、前記絶縁膜の両側のうち、前記第一薄膜が配置されている側とは逆側の側面の全周を囲むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド。 - 前記錐状ティップは、平面基板をエッチング加工することにより形成されたものであることを特徴とする請求項1乃至2のいずれかに記載の近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド。
- 前記媒体表面からの空気浮上力を受ける空気浮上面を持ち、前記空気浮上面が前記錐状ティップと高さが同一であることを特徴とする請求項1または2のいずれかに記載の近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド。
- 前記媒体表面に記録された情報を再生する磁気抵抗素子を持ち、前記磁気抵抗素子が錐状形状を持つことを特徴とする請求項1または2のいずれかに記載の近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド。
- 前記錐状ティップと前記空気浮上面と前記磁気抵抗素子との高さが同一であることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド。
- 前記平面基板は透明であり、
前記錐状ティップは、前記錐状ティップの両側のうち、前記媒体が配置されている側とは逆側から光が前記錐状ティップに入射されることで前記近接場光を発生することを特徴とする請求項3に記載の近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッド。 - 回転する前記媒体表面からの空気浮上力と、前記錐状ティップを支持するサスペンションアームからの荷重との均衡によって前記媒体表面から所定の高さで浮上する空気浮上型ヘッドを持つ記録装置において、前記空気浮上型ヘッドが請求項1から7のいずれかに記載の近接場光アシスト磁気記録ヘッドであることを特徴とする記録装置。
