Description
(a)第1段階でエラストマー相の存在下で、1種以上のビニル芳香族単量体及び1種以上のモノエチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体を含む複数の単量体の混合物を重合し、次いで
(b)1以上の後続段階で工程(a)からのエラストマー相の存在下で1種以上の単量体を重合し、ここで上記1種以上の単量体が、
(C1−C12)アルキル(メタ)アクリレート単量体及びアリール(メタ)アクリレート単量体からなる群から選択される1種以上の単量体、
1種以上のビニル芳香族単量体、及び
1種以上のモノエチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体、
を含む、
工程を含んでなる方法である。
米国特許出願番号題08/962458号(1997年10月31日出願)に教示された方法のような、普通のグラフト重合法を用いて、比較例を実施した。具体的には、45重量部のポリ(ブチルアクリレート)(PBA)ゴム基幹に、67:33(重量比)スチレン/アクリロニトリルの単量体混合物55重量部をグラフトした。種々の比較例で、スチレン/アクリロニトリルの比を72:28の一定値に保ちながら、スチレン/アクリロニトリル(SAN)の単量体混合物の一部を50重量%まで増加する量のメチルメタクリレート(MMA)で置換した。ゴム基幹は、半バッチ式重合法により、(毛細管流体力学的分別により測定した)平均粒径で100nmから450nmまでの3つの異なるゴム粒径にて製造しておいた。種々のグラフト重合生成物について測定したデータを表1に示す。ゲル含量(重量%)の値はすべて、代表的にはPBAとPBAにグラフトした追加の単量体種とからなる、生成物のアセトン不溶部分を表す。膨潤指数はすべてアセトンを用いて測定した。分子量はすべてゲル浸透クロマトグラフィ(GPC)によりテトラヒドロフラン中でポリスチレン標準に対して測定した。下記の表中の分子量はアセトン可溶SANの分子量を表す。
以下の実施例は、単量体を段階的に供給してグラフト化を実施する過程を具体的に示す。212.8部の脱イオン化水及び45部の粒径分布の広いPBAを含有する反応混合物を撹拌し、60℃に加熱した。スチレン及びアクリロニトリル(重量比2:1)からなる単量体混合物を種々の量で各反応に第1段階で供給し、スチレン、アクリロニトリル及びメチルメタクリレート(重量比40:25:35)からなる単量体混合物を種々の量で各反応に第2段階で供給した。単量体供給時間は、供給している単量体の相対量にしたがって、全単量体流量を一定に保つように調節し、合計で55部の単量体を90分にわたって連続的に添加した。さらに、0.225部のクメンヒドロペルオキシドと、5部の脱イオン化水、0.0033部の硫酸第二鉄六水和物、0.3部のナトリウムホルムアルデヒドスルホキシレート及び0.0165部のエチレンジアミン四酢酸の二ナトリウム塩からなる付活剤溶液とを各反応混合物に125分間にわたって連続的に供給した。表4に、各反応混合物に供給した単量体の量(重量部)を示す。
34.5重量部のSAN(S:AN比72:28)、59重量部のASA−HRG、6.5重量部の架橋SAN重合体、3.2重量部の二酸化チタン及び2.25重量部の添加剤(安定剤、酸化防止剤、滑剤及び界面活性剤)を含有する比較例の成形試験片を作製した。上記組成でASA−HRGの代わりにMMA−SANをPBAにグラフトしたもの(MMA:S:AN比45:40:15)59重量部を使用し、55%のSAN(S:AN比2:1)を第1段階でPBAにグラフトし、次いで残りのMMASAN単量体混合物をグラフトした以外は同じ組成の成形試験片を作製した。図5に、AtlasCi65aキセノンアーク耐候試験器(ウェザロメーター)を用いてSAE J1960試験法にしたがって、これら2つの配合物に促進耐候試験を実施した結果を示す。促進耐候試験の後、試験片に、色測定用MacBeth7000測光器を用いてCIE L*a*b*表色系における色測定を実施した。図5に、Δb*の値を耐候性試験での露光量(kJ/m2)に対してプロットした。データから、PBAにグラフトしたMMA−SANを含有する組成物は、対照ブレンドと比較して、耐発色性が大幅に改良されていることが分かる。
70%α−メチルスチレン及び30%アクリロニトリルからなる共重合体40phr、MMA−SANの共重合体(40重量部スチレン/25重量部アクリロニトリル/35重量部MMA、塊状重合法で製造)15phr、及びMMA−SANのPBAへの2段階グラフト化から得られる共重合体45phrを含有する組成物を製造した。使用したPBAは平均粒径100nmのPBAと平均粒径500nmのPBAとの比70:30でのブレンドであった。2段階のそれぞれでPBAにグラフトしたMMA−SANの量を表6に示す。各組成物は、2部のカーボンブラック及び低レベルの普通の滑剤及び安定化添加剤も含有した。表6には、これらの組成物から成形した試験片の物性も示す。粘度は、Kayeness毛管レオメーターを用いて260℃溶融温度条件下で種々の剪断速度で測定した。成形した試験片に、MacBeth7000測光器を用いてCIE L*a*b*表色系における色測定を実施した。L*の値は、MacBeth測光器に測定モードDREOLを用いて、正反射成分を排除して、測定した。
Claims (10)
- 硬質熱可塑性樹脂相に不連続エラストマー相を分散してなるASA(アクリロニトリル−スチレン−アクリレート)型樹脂の製造方法であって、硬質熱可塑性樹脂相の少なくとも一部がエラストマー相にグラフトし、エラストマー相が1種以上の(C1−C12)アルキル(メタ)アクリレート単量体から誘導された構造単位を有するポリマーを含んでおり、当該方法が、
(a)第1段階でエラストマー相の存在下で、1種以上のビニル芳香族単量体及び1種以上のモノエチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体を含む複数の単量体の混合物を重合し、
次いで
(b)1以上の後続段階で工程(a)からのエラストマー相の存在下で1種以上の単量体を重合し、ここで上記1種以上の単量体が、
(C1−C12)アルキル(メタ)アクリレート単量体及びアリール(メタ)アクリレート単量体からなる群から選択される1種以上の単量体、
1種以上のビニル芳香族単量体、及び
1種以上のモノエチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体、
を含む、
工程を含んでなる方法。 - 硬質熱可塑性樹脂相の少なくとも一部がエラストマー相にグラフトする前の前記エラストマー相が、少なくとも2つの平均粒径分布を有する粒子の混合物であって、粒径が50nm〜1000nmの範囲にある広い粒径分布を有する粒子混合物から選択される粒子を含有する、請求項1記載の方法。
- 第1段階の単量体の混合物がスチレンとアクリロニトリル、又はα−メチルスチレンとアクリロニトリル、又はスチレンとα−メチルスチレンとアクリロニトリルの混合物を含有する、請求項1記載の方法。
- スチレン、α−メチルスチレン又はその混合物対アクリロニトリルの重量比が1.5:1〜4:1の範囲にある、請求項3記載の方法。
- 工程(b)において、単量体がメチルメタクリレートを含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- 工程(b)において、1種以上のビニル芳香族単量体が、スチレン、α−メチルスチレン又はそれらの混合物である、請求項1記載の方法。
- 工程(b)において、1種以上のモノエチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体が、アクリロニトリルである、請求項1記載の方法。
- 工程(b)において、(C1−C12)アルキルもしくはアリール(メタ)アクリレート単量体対ビニル芳香族単量体とモノエチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体の合計の重量比が3:1〜1:3の範囲にある、請求項1記載の方法。
- 請求項1乃至請求項8のいずれか1項記載の方法で製造したASA型樹脂。
- 請求項9記載のASA型樹脂に他の硬質熱可塑性樹脂を混合する工程を含む、樹脂組成物の製造方法。
