Description
前記(a)式で、ηin及びηoutは、それぞれ内部光取り出し効率と外部光取り出し効率とを表すものであって、ηinは、平板ディスプレイ装置内の各層の内部で自体的に消滅されることによって決定されるものであり、ηoutは、各層間での全反射、すなわち、光が高屈折率の層から低屈折率の層に入射するとき、臨界角以上に入射して全反射を起こして外部に取り出されることが阻害されることによって決定されるものである。
前記(b)式で、Nは、各層の屈折率である。
本発明のさらに他の特徴によれば、前記第2層の厚さをt2とし、前記副画素から放出される光の波長をλとするとき、前記t2が下記(2)式を満足させうる。
本発明のさらに他の特徴によれば、前記副画素は、電界発光素子で備えられうる。
前記(1)式で、nは自然数である。各副画素別に放出する光の波長が異なるので、各副画素から放出する光の波長によって前記(1)式を満足させるように前記第1層1211の厚さを調節して、光取り出し効率及び輝度を向上させうる。
前記(3)式で、kは、自然数である。前記(3)式に前記(1)式のt1値を代入すれば、次の(2)式が導出される。
前記(2)式で、mは、k−n、すなわち、自然数である。前記第2層1212の厚さt2が前記(2)式を満足させることによって、光取り出し効率及び輝度を向上させうる。このとき、各副画素別に放出する光の波長が異なるので、各副画素から放出する光の波長によって前記(1)式を満足させるように、前記第2層1212の厚さt2を調節することが望ましい。

Claims (8)
- 基板と、
前記基板の上部に備えられ、それぞれ赤色、緑色及び青色の光を放出する3つの副画素を備えた複数個の画素と、
前記副画素の上部に備えられた光共振層と、を備え、
前記光共振層は、前記副画素の上部に形成された第1層と、前記第1層の上部に形成され、前記第1層よりも高い屈折率を有する第2層と、を備え、
前記第1および第2層は、前記3つの副画素上にそれぞれ位置する厚さの異なる3つの領域をそれぞれ有していることを特徴とする平板ディスプレイ装置。 - 前記第1層の厚さをt1とし、前記副画素から放出される光の波長をλとするとき、前記t1が下記(1)式を満足させることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の平板ディスプレイ装置。
t1=(nλ)/2 …(1)、(ただし(1)式中nは自然数) - 前記第2層の厚さをt2とし、前記副画素から放出される光の波長をλとするとき、前記t2が下記(2)式を満足させることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の平板ディスプレイ装置。
t2=(2m+1)λ/4 …(2)、(ただし(2)式中mは自然数) - 前記副画素は、電界発光素子で備えられることを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の平板ディスプレイ装置。
- 前記副画素から放出された光は、前記副画素の上部の方向に取り出されることを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の平板ディスプレイ装置。
- 前記光共振層は、前記第1層と前記第2層とが交互に積層されてなる2つ以上の層を備えることを特徴とする請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の平板ディスプレイ装置。
- 基板を準備するステップと、
基板の上部に赤色、緑色及び青色の光を放出する3つの副画素を形成するステップと、
前記副画素の上部に第1層を形成するステップと、
前記第1層をエッチングして前記3つの副画素によって異なる厚さを有させるステップと、
前記第1層を覆うように、前記第1層よりも高い屈折率を有する第2層を形成するステップと、
前記第2層を平坦化して前記3つの副画素によって異なる厚さを有させるステップと、を含むことを特徴とする平板ディスプレイ装置の製造方法。 - 前記光共振層が2つ以上の層を備えるように、前記第1層と前記第2層とが交互に積層されることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の平板ディスプレイ装置の製造方法。
