本出願は、Knut T. Odman及びWilliam M. Shvodianによる「メディア品質フィードバック」と題する2002年1月22日出願の米国仮出願第60/349,358号の優先権を主張するものであり、この出願の内容は、本明細書において参照により引用される。
上部層430は、装置310,320の機能を含む。これらの上部層430は、TCP/IP,TCP,UDP,RTP,IP,またはLLCなどを含むことができる。
ネットワーク300の装置310,320を動作させる際の一つの重要事項は、装置310,320の各々を一意的に識別することである。これを実行するには幾つかの方法がある。
所与のネットワーク300において利用可能な帯域は、調整装置310により一連の繰返しスーパーフレームにタイミング良く分割される。これらのスーパーフレームにより、どのようにして利用可能な転送時間を種々のタスク間で配分するかを決める。そして、個々のデータフレームは、これらのスーパーフレーム内でスーパーフレームに示されるタイミングに従って転送される。
本発明の目的は方法を提供することにあり、この方法によりネットワークの各装置が、この装置とネットワークの他の装置の各々との間のメディアの品質を継続的にモニターすることができる。
この方法は、新規の送信基準を使用して、ローカルユニットに割り当てられるタイムスロットの間に、ローカル装置からリモート装置の内の一つにデータを送信する。
本発明に対するより完全な評価及び本発明に付随する多くの利点は、次に示す詳細な記述を添付の図面と関連付けて考察しながら参照することにより、より一層本発明の理解が深まれば容易に得られるものである。
通常動作状態では、多くの場合、装置は、装置が高すぎる転送速度で送信を行なっていることを通知することができるが、この通知は、これらの装置が接続を試みる対象となる送信先の装置310,320が、高すぎる転送速度で送信を行なっているこれらの装置からの送信を受信できないという単なる事実によるものである。しかしながら、これらの装置には、これらの装置が低すぎる転送速度で動作しているかどうかを判断する有効な手段がなかった。何故なら、所定のデータパケットの送信先装置310,320は、良好な転送速度であろうと、或いは低すぎる転送速度であろうと、パケットを無事に受信してしまうからである。今までは、送信側装置310,320が送信を行なうために最適な設定を選択できるようにするフィードバックが無かった。
本発明の好適な実施形態は、調整装置310を含む幾つかの装置320から構成されるネットワーク技術(図3参照)を使用して無線メディアにアクセスするTDMA法に関する。
プリアンブルは、2つの装置310,320の間で転送されて受信側で取得する各フレームの先頭に使用される。このプリアンブルによって、受信側装置は、送信側装置を定め、送信側装置と同期することができ、受信側装置が変調されたペイロードをどのようにしてフレームから抽出するかについて知るように受信側装置自体を導くことができる。メディア品質及び伝送パラメータに応じて、このプリアンブルの長さを変えることができる。例えば、信号品質が悪いというメディア条件であったとすると、より長いプリアンブルが必要となり、この長いプリアンブルによって、着信フレームを処理するように受信側装置を準備するためのより長い時間が与えられる。しかしながら、メディア条件が良好で信号品質が悪いとすると、フレームにはより短いプリアンブルが付与され得る。
好適な実施形態では、ネットワーク310は、デフォルトの短いプリアンブルで始め、悪いメディア品質伝送の間に長いプリアンブルに変える。しかしながら、別の実施形態では、初期パケットが無事に転送されることを保証するために、ネットワーク300は、長いプリアンブルで始め、良好なメディア品質伝送の間に短いプリアンブルに切り替える。他の実施形態では、スーパーフレーム500,710の或る部分、例えばビーコン及びMTSには必ず長いプリアンブルが使用されて、これらの部分があらゆる環境下で無事に転送されることが保証される。
上述のように、スーパーフレームは、一つ以上のMTSを周期的に含むことができる。特に各スーパーフレームでは、ネットワークの一つの非調整装置320には少なくとも一つのMTSが割り当てられることが好ましい。連続するスーパーフレームの利用可能なMTSは、適切なアルゴリズムを使用して非調整装置320に配信されるので、各非調整装置320には少なくとも一つのMTSが周期的に割り当てられる(図7及び関連する開示を参照)。
Claims (1)
- ローカル装置が、無線ネットワークにおける前記ローカル装置と複数のリモート装置との間の複数の伝送経路のメディア品質を判定する方法であって、前記ローカル装置及び前記リモート装置の各々には、スーパーフレーム構成における複数の管理タイムスロットの内の少なくとも一つが割り当てられ、
前記ローカル装置に割り当てられる前記管理タイムスロットの各々の間に、一組の送信基準に従って、前記ローカル装置からネットワーク調整装置にローカルフレームを送信すること、
前記リモート装置の内の一つに割り当てられる前記管理タイムスロットの各々の間に、一組の受信基準に従ってリモートフレームを受信すること、
前記ローカル装置と前記リモートフレームを送信した前記リモート装置との間の伝送メディアに関する品質情報を判定すること、
前記品質情報に基づいて、前記リモート装置への送信のための前記ローカル装置における一組の変形送信基準を決定すること、
前記品質情報に基づいて、前記リモート装置からの送信のための前記ローカル装置における一組の変形受信基準を決定すること、
前記一組の変形送信基準及び前記一組の変形受信基準を、それぞれ新規の送信基準及び新規の受信基準として前記ローカル装置に保存することを備え、
前記ローカルフレームは、前記ローカル装置がネットワーク調整装置に送信する管理データを有する場合には管理フレームであり、前記ローカル装置が前記調整装置に送信する管理データを有さない場合には空フレームである、方法。
