従来、この種の側突用エアバッグ装置を装備した車両用シートとして例えば特開平8−258660号公報に開示された車両用シート構造がある。しかし、この公報に開示されたシートカバー構造はシートカバーのメイン表皮とサイド表皮とを直接縫製する構成となっている。
しかし、一般的にはこのシートカバーのメイン表皮とサイド表皮との縫製部には装飾用玉縁を介在して縫製して縁取りしてシート意匠に高級感を付与することが通常であった。
