Description
いられる光ファイバコネクタ用フェルール(以下、単に
フェルールと言う)に関する。
ように、ジルコニアセラミックス等の硬質のセラミック
スを円筒状(外径2.5mm)に形成した本体20と、
ステンレス製等の金属材で形成された鍔部を有する係止
用筒体21とで構成され、前記本体20には光ファイバ
の外径と同様な孔径の微細な貫通孔23が設けられてい
る。該貫通孔23には光ファイバの素線を挿通して接着
剤(例えばエポキシ系接着剤)で十分に固着させる。
継器用コネクタに使用すれば、例えば、図8に示すよう
になる。即ち、中継器用コネクタ22にアダプタ26を
介して、角型プラグ27と丸型プラグ28とを連結する
ものである。
プラグ27が強制挿入され爪部22aでロックされるよ
うになっている。また、前記アダプタ26には、中継器
用コネクタ22の締付ナット22bのネジ部によって該
中継器用コネクタ22が螺着され、前記丸型プラグ28
の締付ナット28aのネジ部によって該プラグ28が螺
着される。そして、前記中継器用コネクタ22には光フ
ァイバ整列用の割スリーブ32が設けられ、該割スリー
ブ32は図7(イ),(ロ)の正面図と側面図に示され
るような銅製等の金属製スリーブである。

スリーブによってなされ、光信号が伝達されるものであ
る。
フェルールでは、前記割スリーブ32によって整列され
るものであって、図8の矢印に示すような力が加わる
と、中継器用コネクタ22のフェルール24は、その本
体20が硬質のセラミックであるために変形することが
なく、また、プラグ27,28のフェルール27a,2
8bも同様に変形しないので、結果的に最も弱い部分、
即ち割スリーブ32が広がってしまう。
16の送受信端末に従来のフェルール24を使用した場
合にも、プラグ25に外圧力が加わると割スリーブ32
が変形しその口が広がってしまう。この結果、挿入損失
が大きくなり、光ファイバの連結接続の性能を著しく損
なうと言った欠点が存在した。
ので、プラグ等に不測な外圧力が加わり、フェルールや
割スリーブに変形力が作用しても、この変形力をフェル
ールに湾曲作用させて巧みに吸収し、挿入損失を大きく
させない光ファイバコネクタ用フェルールを提供するこ
とを目的とする。
し上記目的を達成するための要旨は、先端側円筒部と、
後端側円筒部と、これらを連結する中間円筒部である本
体とで構成され、前記両端の円筒部が各々において中継
接続される光ファイバコネクタ用フェルールであって、
前記フェルールの先端側及び後端側の円筒部の外径に対
して中間円筒部の外径を、光ファイバの許容曲半径程度
に湾曲し、かつ、外部の圧力が解除されると元に復帰す
る程度に弾性を有する細径にしたことに存する。

にした中間円筒部が湾曲し、これにより当該外圧力を吸
収してアダプタの割スリーブにその口が広がる等の悪影
響を与えることがなくなり、挿入損失を大きくしないも
のである。

筒部5を有してなる本体6とで構成され、光ファイバを
挿入する貫通孔7が穿孔されている。

り、もちろん同じ外径としてもよいものである。そし
て、前記本体6の細径の中間円筒部5の外径を約0.7
mmとしたが、この外径を1mm以下とするのが好まし
いものである。該本体6はその材質を金属製、とりわけ
弾性のあるステンレスとしている。

設けてここに遮弊板8を嵌装して、光信号を減衰させる
ものにも適用できるものである。また、該遮弊板8を特
定波長の光信号のみを通過させるフィルターとして前記
空隙に嵌装して適用できるものである。この遮弊板8
は、後述にてプラグ等に外圧力が加わった場合を考慮す
ると、フェルール1の後端側円筒部3において設けるよ
うにするのが外圧の悪影響が少なくて望ましいものであ
る。
テンレス製の本体9としたもの、図3(ロ)のように先
端側及び後端側の円筒部10,11をステンレス製と
し、中間円筒部5をステンレスや銅合金等の金属製と
し、光ファイバの先端部と後端部とを内挿する部分をセ
ラミックス製円筒部12,13としたもの、図3(ハ)
のように光ファイバをその素線14と芯線15とを内挿
するようにしてこれを図3(ロ)の構成にしたもの、な
ど種々設計変更できるものである。
図4に示すような状態になる。即ち、図4(イ)におい
て、例えば、光通信機16の送受信端末にフェルール1
が使用されると、これに割スリーブ32で整列されてフ
ェルール24が挿入されたプラグ25に外部から圧力F
が加わると、フェルール1の中間円筒部5において湾曲
する。これにより前記割スリーブ32においては何等変
形がなく、従って挿入損失が不当に大きくなることがな
い。前記フェルール1の中間円筒部5の湾曲程度は、光
ファイバの許容曲半径程度であり、前記圧力Fが解除さ
れると中間円筒部5の湾曲が元に復帰するものである。
継器に適用した場合を示しており、その作用,効果は図
4(イ)と同じであり説明を省略する。

筒部と、これらを連結する中間円筒部である本体とで構
成され、前記両端の円筒部が各々において中継接続され
る光ファイバコネクタ用フェルールであって、前記フェ
ルールの先端側及び後端側の円筒部の外径に対して中間
円筒部の外径を、光ファイバの許容曲半径程度に湾曲
し、かつ、外部の圧力が解除されると元に復帰する程度
に弾性を有する細径にしたので、前記中間円筒部が湾曲
することで外圧力を吸収することになり、整列用の割ス
リーブに悪影響を与えず、挿入損失が大きくなることが
ない。

Claims (1)
- 【請求項1】先端側円筒部と、後端側円筒部と、これら
を連結する中間円筒部である本体とで構成され、前記両
端の円筒部が各々において中継接続される光ファイバコ
ネクタ用フェルールであって、 前記フェルールの先端側及び後端側の円筒部の外径に対
して中間円筒部の外径を、光ファイバの許容曲半径程度
に湾曲し、かつ、外部の圧力が解除されると元に復帰す
る程度に弾性を有する細径にしたことを特徴としてなる
光ファイバコネクタ用フェルール。
