窓１４は、透明ガラス、クリアポリマー（例えば、ポリカーボネート、アクリルなど）、ポリマー接着剤、及び／又は他の層の１つ以上の層から形成され得る。例えば、窓１４は、接着剤で一体に積層された２つのガラス層又は３つのガラス層から形成され得る。ガラス層は、（例えば、ガラス層の表面上に圧縮応力を生成するように）化学的又は熱的に強化されてもよい。図１の例示的な構成では、窓１４は、外側窓層２０及び内側窓層２４（例えば、外側及び内側構造ガラス層及び／又は透明材料の他の層）から形成される。層２０及び層２４の厚さは、例えば、０．５ｍｍ～３ｍｍ、少なくとも０．３ｍｍ、少なくとも０．５ｍｍ、４ｍｍ未満、３ｍｍ未満、又は他の好適な厚さであり得る。外側層２０と内側層２４は、介在接着剤層２２（例えば、一方の表面が外側窓層２０の内向き表面に接着され、反対側の表面が内側窓層２４の外向き表面に接着された接着剤層）などのポリマー層を使用して一体に積層され得る。接着剤層２２は、層２０及び層２４の屈折率と整合する（例えば、０．１以内、０．０７以内、０．０５以内、又は０．０３以内の）屈折率を有し得る。接着層２２を形成するために使用され得るポリマーの例としては、熱可塑性ポリウレタン、エチレン－酢酸ビニル、及びポリビニルブチラールが挙げられる。層２２は、必要に応じて、音響減衰を提供するように構成されたポリマー（例えば、層２２内に埋め込まれた軟質ポリビニルブチラール副層又は他の音響フィルム）を含み得る。
外側窓層２０は、構造用窓ガラスの単一の層から形成されてもよく、又はガラス、光学的にクリアな接着剤、及び／又はポリマーフィルムの１つ以上の層などの複数の副層を含んでもよい。内側窓層２４は、同様に、構造用窓ガラスの単一の層から形成されてもよく、又はガラス、光学的にクリアな接着剤、及び／又はポリマーフィルムの１つ以上の層などの複数の副層を含んでもよい。この例では、層２０及び２４は、成形板ガラスから形成されたガラス層である。
必要に応じて、任意の固定及び／又は調整可能な光学構成要素が窓１４に組み入られ得る。図１に示すように、例えば、光学層２８などの１つ以上の光学構成要素が窓１４に組み入られ得る（例えば、層２８などの１つ以上の層が接着剤層２２に埋め込まれ得る）。各層２８は、固定及び／又は調整可能な量の不透明度、偏光、反射、色かぶり、ヘイズ、及び／又は他の光学特性を提供する固定及び／又は調整可能な光学層であり得る。例示的な構成では、層２８は、光源２６からの光を受け取る導光体であり得る。光源２６は、一例として、全内部反射によって導光体内において窓１４を横切ってガイドされる可視光を提供し得る。導光体から導波光の一部を、（例えば、内部領域１８の照明を生成するように内向きに、及び／又は外向きに）抽出するために、光散乱構造体が窓１４に設けられ得る。照明付き導光体及び／又は１つ以上の追加の固定及び／又は調整可能な光学層を含む窓１４の配置も使用され得る。本明細書において時々、図１の光学構成要素層２８のような光学構成要素が省略された窓１４の構成が一例として説明される。
システム１０内の窓は、完全に平面状であってもよく（例えば、窓１４の内側及び外側の表面が平坦であってもよい）、及び／又はシステム１０内の窓の一部又は全部が表面曲率を有してもよい。各窓の内側及び外側表面は、一例として、複合曲率（例えば、図１のＸ及びＹ方向に沿って切り取った湾曲した断面プロファイルを特徴とする非可展面）を有し、及び／又は可展面（歪みなく平坦化可能な、０ガウス曲率を有する表面）を有し得る。湾曲した窓形状は、ガラスが成形するのに十分軟化するまでガラスを加熱することによって形成され得る。必要に応じて、加熱された窓ガラスは、少なくとも部分的に重力によって形作られる。所望の湾曲した窓形状を得るために、窓の内側及び外側構造体の成形に、モールドダイからの圧力などの追加の力を使用し得る。
一例として、図２、図３、図４、及び図５に示す例示的なガラス成形操作を考えてみる。ガラス成形操作中に、板ガラスのシートを湾曲した断面プロファイルを有する形状に成形するために、成形設備を使用し得る。平板ガラスシート（例えば、ソーダ石灰シリカガラス素材のシート）を所望の形状に成形して、図１の外側窓層２０のような外側窓層及び図１の内側窓層２４のような内側窓層を形成し得る。これらの成形窓層は、湾曲した断面プロファイルを特徴とし、そして複合曲率のない表面を有し得（例えば、窓層は可展面のみを有する）、可展面領域のない表面を有し得（例えば、窓層は複合曲率のみを持つ表面を有する）、及び／又は可展面を特徴とする１つ以上の領域と複合曲率を特徴とする１つ以上の領域の両方を有し得る。
図２に示すように、内側窓層２４を形成するための平板ガラス層を、成形設備５２の炉５０内で加熱し得る。設備５２は、モールド５４のような、所望の湾曲した形状を有するモールドを含み得る。モールド５４は、高温に耐えられるグラファイトなどの材料から形成され得る。モールド５４の開口部及び／又は多孔質のモールド材料（例えば、多孔質グラファイト）を通じて、真空圧を加え得る。炉５０で熱を加えると、層２４のガラスは軟化する。
層２４を熱で軟化させた後、層２４は重力によって垂れ下がって、図３の部分的に変形した形状を形成し得る。次いで、図４の矢印５６で示すように、層２４のモールドに面する表面に真空を加え得る。加えられた真空は、モールド５４の湾曲した表面に対して層２４を下向きに引っ張って、ガラス層２４を所望の形状に形成する。
この工程によって、外側に向いた凸状面（表面５８）を特徴とする内側窓層２４の形状が得られる。層２４の凸状成形面と、その向き合うモールド５４の凹状面との間の接触に起因して（例えば、成形面にインプリントされた成形用凹状面上の粗さに起因して）、表面５８に表面テキスチャ（粗さ）が存在し得る。
外側窓層２０は、凸状面を有するモールドを使用して形成され得る。例えば、図５に示すように、外側窓層２０（例えば、板ガラスの層）を、成形設備５２’の炉５０’内に入れて、モールド５４’に当てて成形し得る。層２０を軟化させるために、層２０は最初に炉５０’内で加熱される。軟化したガラス層２０は、図３の設備５２内の層２４に関連して説明したのと同様に、重力によって垂れ下がる。次に、層２０に真空５６’を加えることによって、層２０をモールド５４’の露出した凸状面に当てて成形し得る。モールド５４’は、多孔質グラファイトなどの多孔質材料から形成され得、及び／又は真空５６’がモールド５４’の露出した凸状面に対して層２０を引っ張るのを可能にするための真空開口部を有し得る。真空によって印加される圧力によって、層２０の凹状面６０はモールド５４’の形状を持つようになり、これによって、ガラス層２０を所望の最終的な形状に形成する。モールド５４と接触する層２４の表面（表面５８）と同様に、凹状面６０とモールド５４’の対応する露出した粗い凸状面との間の接触に起因して、層２０の表面６０は粗く成り得る。
図５のモールド５４’の凸状面の形状は、図４のモールド５４の凹状面の形状と整合し得る。その結果、図６に示すように、外側層２０の凹状面６０は、内側窓層２４の対応する凸状面５８と嵌合するようになる。凹状面６０は、図５のモールド５４’との接触に起因する成形面粗さを有する成形面である。その反対側にある表面６１は、モールドに押し付けられていない非成形面であり、よって、成形面６０よりも少ない表面粗さを特徴とする。凸状面５８は、図４のモールド５４との接触に起因する成形面粗さを有する成形面である。その反対側にある表面５９は、成形面５８よりも少ない表面粗さを特徴とする非成形面である。（文脈で、成形ガラス層の整合する凹状と凸状の面上のモールド粗面化面５８と６０を作り出すモールドの使用を説明することもあるが、プレス曲げなどの他のガラス成形工程も粗い表面を有する層２０及び２４の形成に使用し得ることを理解されたい。）
積層用の窓層２０と２４を用意するために、加工設備６２を使用して層２０及び２４の縁部をトリミングし、そしてオプションで表面５８及び６０を処理し得る。一例として、設備６２は切断ツール６４を含み得る。ツール６４は、電気的に制御されるポジショナを有するレーザーカッターなどのコンピュータ制御カッター、研削ツール、又はウォータージェットカッターなどのコンピュータ制御カッターであり得る。これらのポジショナは、層２０の周囲及び層２４の周囲に切り目６６（例えば、窓１４の所望の輪郭を形成する周囲切り目）を形成するように制御され得る。窓１４の輪郭は、一例として、長方形、三角形、楕円形、円形などであってもよく、直線状及び／又は湾曲した縁部セグメントを有してもよく、及び／又は他の適切な輪郭形状を有してもよい。
必要に応じて、ツール６８は、化学エッチング液を塗布するために（例えば、表面５８及び／又は表面６０を化学的に処理することによって表面５８及び／又は表面６０を化学的にエッチングして平滑性を高めるために）オプションで使用されてもよく、ツール６８は、表面５８及び／又は表面６０を（例えば、研磨ヘッドを表面５８及び／又は６０にわたって移動させることによって）機械的に研磨するために使用されてもよく、及び／又はツール６８は、表面粗さの低減を助けるために化学的と機械的研磨手法の組合せを使用してもよい。化学エッチング液（及び、必要に応じて研磨）の使用は、さもなければ表面５８及び６０に残る可能性があるマイクロクラックを広げるのを助けることができる。表面５８及び６０内のクラックを広げることによって（例えば、化学エッチング液を使用して表面５８及び６０を化学的にエッチングすることによって）、これらのクラックは、後続の積層操作中にポリマー（例えば、接着剤２２及び／又は他のポリマー、後に硬化される液体ポリマー、熱可塑性ポリウレタン、エチレン酢酸ビニル、ポリビニルブチラール、及び／又は他のポリマー材料）を受け入れるのに十分な大きさになることができる（例えば、閉じ込められた気泡又は他の空隙は、さもなければポリマーが表面５８及び６０に塗布されるときに空隙形成を促進するのに十分に狭いクラックを、表面５８及び６０を化学的にエッチングして広げることによって減少され得る）。
必要に応じて、（例えば、加工の複雑さを低減するのを助けるために）ツール６８などの表面処理ツールの使用を回避することができる。
層２０及び２４を成形するために使用される成形工程は、１～７％、５～９％、１０％未満、８％未満、５％未満、少なくとも２％、少なくとも４％、少なくとも６％の表面歪み、又は他の表面歪みを導入し得る。成形中に、表面５８及び６０とモールド５４及び５４’の対応する表面との間の接触は、表面５８及び６０に表面粗さを導入し得る。一例として、表面５８及び６０などのモールド粗面化面は、約１００ｎｍＲａの粗さ値（例えば、少なくとも１０ｎｍＲａ、少なくとも２０ｎｍＲａ、少なくとも４０ｎｍＲａ、少なくとも８０ｎｍＲａ、又は少なくとも１６０ｎｍＲａ、１０００ｎｍＲａ未満、５００ｎｍＲａ未満、２５０ｎｍＲａ未満、１４０ｎｍＲａ未満、７０ｎｍＲａ未満、２５～４００ｎｍＲａ、５０～２００ｎｍＲａ、又は他の表面粗さ値）を特徴とし得る。これらのような粗い表面は、表面特徴からの光散乱に起因して窓１４に望ましくないヘイズを生じさせる可能性がある。
接着剤層２２の厚さ及び屈折率は、層２０及び２４の表面粗さに起因する窓１４のヘイズを解消又は少なくとも（例えば、例として、２％未満、１％未満、又は０．５％未満のヘイズ値まで）低減させると同時に、層２０と２４を満足に一体に取り付けさせるように構成され得る。図７は、加工設備６２内の積層設備（例えば、真空積層設備）を使用して層２０と２４が一体に積層される際に、接着剤層２２が層２０と２４との間にどのように形成され得るかを示す。図７に示すように、液体接着剤が表面５８と６０との間に散布されてもよく、圧力が設備６２によって（例えば、積層ダイ７０を使用して層２０と２４を方向７２に一体にプレスすることによって加えられてもよい。層２２を形成する液体ポリマーは、熱、光（例えば、紫外線）、触媒などの適用によって硬化され得る。
表面５８及び６０に関連する成形面粗さに起因する望ましくない光散乱を回避するために、層２２の厚さは、表面５８と６０のガラスを互いに直接接触しないように分離するのに十分であり得、層２２の屈折率は、層２０及び２４の屈折率と整合し得る。一例として、層２２の厚さは、０．０７６ｍｍ、少なくとも０．０３０ｍｍ、０．１４ｍｍ未満、０．０３～０．１ｍｍなどであり得、層２２の屈折率は、０．２以内、０．１以内、又は０．０５以内で層２０及び２４の屈折率と整合し得る。
層２０及び２４の屈折率は、約１．４～１．５であり得る。例えば、層２０及び層２４は各々、少なくとも１．３、少なくとも１．３５、少なくとも１．４、少なくとも１．４５、１．６未満、１．５未満、１．４５未満、１．３５～１．５５、１．４～１．５、１．４～１．５、１．４５～１．５５、１．４～１．６、１．３～１．６、１．３５～１．５５の屈折率値、又は他の好適な屈折率値を有し得る。層２０と２４は同じ屈折率値を有してもよく、又は層２０と２４の屈折率値は異なっていてもよい。例示的な構成では、層２０と２４は、共通の屈折率値を共有する。層２２と層２４との間の界面における光反射を回避するのを助けるため、及び層２０と層２２との間の界面における光反射を回避するのを助けるため、及び表面５８及び６０の成形面粗さに起因する光散乱からのヘイズを回避するのを助けるために、層２２の屈折率は、層２０及び２４の屈折率と、０．２以内、０．１５以内、０．１以内、０．０５以内、又は他の適切な整合量で整合し得る。厳密に整合された屈折率値（例えば、層２２の屈折率が層２０及び２４の屈折率よりも０．１未満又は０．０５未満だけ上又は下にはずれる値）は、あまり厳密に整合されていない屈折率値（例えば、層２２の屈折率が層２０及び２４の屈折率よりも少なくとも０．１だけ大きい又は小さい値）よりも光反射が少なくなる。しかしながら、一般に、任意の適切な屈折率値が層２２のポリマーに使用され得る。
必要に応じて、図１の層２８などの１つ以上の光学構成要素層が層２２内に埋め込まれ得る。図７の窓１４の形成に続いて、窓１４は、本体１２の開口部に設置され得る（例えば、図１参照）。
一実施形態によれば、本体と、成形面粗さを有する凸状面を有する内側窓層を含む本体内の窓と、成形面粗さを有する凹状面を有する外側窓層と、凹状と凸状の面との間にあり、内側窓層と外側窓層を取り付けさせるポリマーと、を含むシステムが提供される。
別の実施形態によれば、内側窓層はガラス車両窓層である。
別の実施形態によれば、外側窓層はガラス車両窓層である。
別の実施形態によれば、凸状及び凹状の面は各々、５０～１５０ｎｍＲａの表面粗さを特徴とする。
