撹拌装置、温度調整装置、窒素導入管及び留出液捕集装置を備えた反応容器に、8−エチルオクタデカン二酸「SB−20」[岡村製油(株)製]148.7重量部、2−エチルヘキシルアルコール114.7重量部、触媒としてメタンスルホン酸0.4重量部、次亜リン酸0.1重量部を投入し、撹拌下130℃に昇温し、同温度で反応中に生成される反応水を系外に留出させながら、エステル化反応を行った。所定量の反応水が得られた後、触媒を炭酸水素カリウムで中和した後水洗を行い、エステル中間油220.2重量部を得た。このエステル中間油をn−ヘキサン250重量部に溶解させ、吸着剤が充填された吸着塔に供給して通液した後、n−ヘキサンを除去し、8−エチルオクタデカン二酸ジ−2−エチルヘキシル(E−1)191.4重量部を得た。
