Abstract
Secondo lo stato della tecnica nota, al fine di migliorare il contrasto delle celle a cristalli liquidi con struttura a matrice, vengono disposti tra gli elettrodi a strisce delle strisce di copertura impermeabili alla luce. Questo intervento fa si che diminuisca la luminosità del display illuminato posteriormente. Secondo l'invenzione al fine di migliorare il contrasto del display, viene suggerito di incrementare gli strati di orientazione (16), i quali vengono normalmente formati da polimeri e possono venire indicati quasi come isolanti in presenza di una completa polimerizzazione, mediante incremento della conducibilità tramite arricchimento ionico. Questo arricchimento ionico fa si che quando gli elettrodi a strisce 13.1, 13.2 di due piastre di substrato (11.1, 11.2) disposte a distanza l'una rispetto all'altra, vengono sollecitati con una tensione alternata, non solamente le molecole (18) a cristalli liquidi che sono disposte nel campo di incrocio diretto (14) vengono trasformate in un allineamento omeotropo. Il campo elettrico degli elettrodi a strisce (13.1, 13.2) provoca piuttosto uno spostamento degli ioni negli strati di orientazione (16) con la conseguenza che gli ioni si distribuiscono in modo ordinato negli strati di orientazione. Questo allineamento delle posizioni di carica fa si che anche le molecole a cristalli liquidi che sono disposte a distanza laterale fra due elettrodi a strisce di una piastra di substrato assumano un allineamento omeotropo.
