Abstract

A cementitious compsn, which when mixed with water sets into a hard mass with little wet expansion in the hardened state, comprises aluminous cement, gypsum, a drying shrinkage inhibitor and sufficient Li salt; pref. Li2CO3, LiOH, Li citrate or Li acetate, to act as a wet expansion inhibitor. A cementitious compsn. setting in a short time with little shrinkage and possessing a high degree of fluid impermeability when set, is as above with Portland cement as the drying shrinkage inhibitor. The method of inhibiting wet expansion in the hardened system of the cementitious system by adding Li salt; and the hardened compsn, are also claimed. Cementitious compsns. exhibiting little wet expansion, e.g. 0.188% no dimensional change on drying; having high abrasion and chemical resistance, fluid impermeability, and high strength, and having fast setting times, can be provided. The compsns. are useful in the construction industry.
