Abstract

The equipment has a frame in which a rope pulley is rotatingly seated with a groove accommodating a rope slung at an angle in excess of 180 degrees. The rope enters the frame at the bottom end. It is led over rollers and then over the circumference of a rope pulley and over further two rollers to leave the frame at the outlet. The rope pulley has a recess into which two brake shoes are fitted. The brake shoes are under the pressure of two springs which push them against the inner surfaces of the recess. To increase the brake pressure the brake system is fitted with an eccentric operated linkage. The equipment is also fitted with a rope monitoring device with a sensing arm pressed constantly against the rope which actuates a blocking mechanism when no rope is present.
