Abstract
The gas washer suitable for removing particles from smoke from foundries, furnaces etc. has a chamber (2) containing electrodes which charge negatively the smoke passing through the smoke conduits (1), and discharging into a vertical chimney (3). A water spray is injected through nozzles (4) through the chimney wall above the smoke entry. The droplets of the spray are fine enough to be in suspension in the gas, and are charged positively, so as to attract the particles. The nozzles are mounted inside tubes through the chimney wall so that a flow of air passes through with the droplets. At the top, the mixture passes through a branch pipe (5) connected to a separator (6) which retains the droplets, and passes the cleaned smoke. The injected spray also tends to absorb noxious vapours in the smoke.
