Abstract
The length of a cable, used e.g. to suspend the probe of a well logging outfit, is measured by measuring wheels, supported on a tubular frame between two sets of guide wheel assemblies. The carriers of all wheels are arranged on the frame in such a way that the pressure of the measuring wheels against the cable remains constant and at right angles to the section of the cable. The constant magnitude and direction of the pressure against the cable ensures a more accurate and more reliable measurement.
