Abstract
A moulded, one-piece pesticidal article, made of a water-insoluble organic solid in which is embedded finely-divided metal phosphide(s), esp. Al and/or Mg phosphide, is covered on one or more sides by a fibrous, water vapour permeable fabric of which the fibres extend at least partially into the phosphide particles embedded in the article. Esp. useful as an insecticide; the article may be in the form of a plate, a band, or ribbon etc. which is easy to apply to the site to be treated. The water vapour permeability of the fabric allows rapid decompsn. of the phosphide under the influence of the moisture to form gaseous PH3 which is given off regularly and rapidly. The article may be used with cereals, tobacco, foodstuffs etc. The PH3 kills e.g. insects and rodents.
