Claims (19)
1. . A casing for armoured track-layi ng or wheeled vehicles , which casing serves for enhanced bal listic protection and consists of an elastic material with metal plates embedded therein , a fabric insert being provided on at least one side of said metal plates , characterized in that the fabric insert consists of a highly elastic , open-meshed synthetic fabric formed of tear-resistant single fibers .
2. The casing as claimed 1n claim 1 , characterized in that there exists a gap between adjacent metal plates and that in the zone of said gap between two adjacent plates the fabri c insert is pulled in , in a direction towards the central plane of said metal plates .
3. The casing as claimed in claims 1 or 2 , characterized in that the edges of the metal plates are substantial ly semi-circular in shape.
4. The casing as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the metal plates embedded in the elastic material are provided with holes and that in the zone of these holes , the fabric insert is pulled in , in a di rection toward the central plane of said metal plates .
5. The casing as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that, in the zone of a gap between two adjacent metal plates , the surface of the el astic material 1s provided wi th a cut mark.
6. The casing as claimed in claim 5 , characterized in that, in the zone of intersection of two gaps , the elastic material is provided with a hole.
7. The casing as claimed in claim 6 , characterized in that the elastic material is provided with a thickening arranged concentrically around the hole.
8. The casing as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7 , characterized in that the elastic material consists of f1 re-retarding rubber.
9. The casing as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 8, characterised in that on each lateral edge of the casing there is provided at least one hole for the attaching of a connecting member.
10. The casing as claimed 1n claim 9 , characterized 1n that a projection 1s provided in the immediate vicinity of each hole provided at the l ateral edge , which projection serves as a catch , the surface of which preferably has the shape of a spherical segment.
11. . The casing as claimed in claims 9 or 10, characterized in that, for the attaching of the connecting member, there i s provided a ridge-l ike projection , arranged around the hole and forming substantial ly a quarter of a circle.
12. The casing as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 11 , characterized 1n that, In the lower zone of the casing a metal rod , bent in a crankl ike shape, is inserted into the elastic material instead of inserting metal plates .
13. The casing as claimed in claim 12 , characterized in that the two ends of said bent m>d rest in fabric loops in an elastically rotatable manner, which fabric loops are vulcani zed into the casi ng.
14. The casing AH claimed in claims 12 or 13, characterized in that cut marks are provided at a short distance above the crank-li ke bend of the metal rod, --which cut marks serve for an aperture to be used as a step.
15. The casing as claimed i n any one of claims 1 to 14, characterized in that the lower edge of the casing is provided with a bead .
16. The casing as claimed 1n claim 15, characterized in that the bead compri ses at least one fabric Insert.
17. The casing as claimed in claim 15 , characterized in that a steel cable is embedded in the bead.
18. The casing as claimed in anyone of claims 1 to 17 , characterized in that 1n the zones of the casing in which fixing bol ts have to be arranged , the elastic material comprises a thickening provided with a larger hole to accommodate the heads of said fixing bol ts .
19. A casing for armoured track-laying or wheeled vehicles substantial ly as described herein and with reference to the accompanying drawings * For the Appl icant
