Abstract

Seeds are placed on a carrier 42, e.g. a travelling belt, permeable to air and water and an airstream is passed therethrough whereby decomposition of the seed and fungus growth is prevented and heat, undue moisture, carbon dioxide and ethylene generated during growth are removed. The air is supplied by means 46 carried by a cart 43 movable over the length of the carrier. Water and/or nutrient solution is supplied continuously or intermittently. <IMAGE>
