Abstract

Cellulose-containing material, which is wood or a solid product prepared from wood, for example plywood or hardboard, is preserved. The cellulose-containing material must be virtually free from attack by wood-destroying fungi before it is treated. The treatment is carried out in an aqueous system containing 0.01 to 0.4% by weight of an organotin compound. In this tin compound, three organic groups are bonded in each case by a carbon/tin bond to one and the same tin atom. The aqueous system furthermore contains a monoquaternary ammonium compound in an amount which suffices to disperse the organotin compound under the treatment conditions in such a manner that the wood or wood product is loaded with 0.15 to 1.5 kg of the organotin compound per m<3>. In this preservation process, a substantial amount of organotin compound is taken up by the inner parts of the wood or the solid wood product. [FR2220190A1]
