Abstract
1468874 Preparation of oxazolines BAYER AG 16 April 1974 [16 April 1973] 16438/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises (a) a process for the preparation of compounds of Formula II wherein n represents 1, 2 or 3; R<SP>1</SP> represents an optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbyl radical or when n is 2 R<SP>1</SP> is a direct bond and R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are independently H or CH 3 by reaction of a compound of Formula I is reacted with SO 3 at 20-200‹ C. and the resulting reaction mixture is thereafter neutralized and the produced product of Formula II recovered and (b) a mono- or bis-oxazoline of Formula IV wherein R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are independently H or CH 3 ; R<SP>7</SP> is OH, SO 3 H or sulphonate; p is 1 or 2 and b is 1 or 2 and where when b = 2 radicals R<SP>7</SP> are the same or different. Terephthalic acid bis - N - (2 - hydroxypropyl)- amide is prepared by reaction of 1-amino-2-propanol with dimethyl terephthalate. 5 - Sulpho - isophthalic acid bis - N - hydroxyethylamide is prepared as its sodium salt by reaction of the sodium salt of 5-sulphoisophthalic acid dimethyl ester with aminoethanol.
