MILCHWIRTSCHAFTLICHE FORSCHUNGS - UND UNTERSUCHUNGS G.m.b.H. 26 Nov., 1969 [26 Nov., 1968; 3 Jan., 1969; 19 Aug., 1969; 4 Oct., 1969], No. 57854/69. Heading B8T. A process for the sterile packaging of sprayable or foamable substances in aerosol dispensers in which the valve is secured to the container, comprises sterilizing the container and filling with the foamable or sprayable substance and the propellant gas. Sterilization is achieved by either filling the container with a gaseous or vaporized sterilizing agent, e.g. ethylene oxide, or heating the container, or a combination of heating and introducing a sterilizing agent. The sterilizing agent is left in the container until all the germs are destroyed and then removed by flushing with an inert gas. The process may be carried out in a sterile chamber filled with air at a pressure in excess of atmospheric pressure. The chamber may be kept sterile by illumination with U.V. lamps. A ring nozzle may be used to provide an air curtain around the aerosol valve to provide further protection during filling. By using this process cream may be preserved for periods up to four weeks. The aerosol converts the cream to whipped cream on discharge.
