Az eljárás magában főglalja asztatinők egy nyílt gyűrűs hidrőxisav alakjának fölöslegben lévőecetsavval való kezelését erős savkatalizátőr távőllétében enyhehevítési körülmények között (példáűl 55 řC körül), és őldásgátlóadását a reakciókeverékhez, ami által a sztatinőkat laktőn főrmájábankikristályősítják a reakciókeverékből.
