Abstract

This invention refers to the discovery of a new system for the gas treatment of a liquid or liquid - solids mixture contained in a tank, with a gas occupying the space over the free surface of the liquid in the tank. A suitable grating, with the desired dimensions, is fixed by suitable means at the desired position, slightly submerged into the liquid and parallel to its free surface. A suitable mechanism forces the grating to perform the desired back and forth motions or/ and vibrations, so as to vigorously agitate the free surface of the liquid, while suitable means, fitted throughout the surface of the grating, increase turbulence, or/ and shearing forces within the top layers of the liquid under the grating, so as to form a mixture of intensely agitated liquid and gas bubbles. In this way, only the top layer of the liquid is agitated intensely, that is almost exclusively the free surface of the liquid, dissolving the gas located in this space, while a suitable agitating system agitates the contents of the tank to homogenise them.
