Abstract
Process of mixing an additive gas into a liq. in which additive gas is injected via downward-directed nozzles just below the surface of liq. in a covered tank and gas passing through the liq. to collect in the head space above the liq. surface is reinjected into the liq. e.g. by drawing gas from the head space into a compressor which delivers to injection nozzles near the bottom of the tank; alternatively reinjection of gas can be effected by a turbine impeller drawing gas back in from the head space. For gasifying liqs., partic. injecting oxygen gas or oxygen-enriched air into waste water undergoing biological purification. The initial injection can be at a comparatively low pressure which obviates compressing the additive gas to any great extent. Reinjection of gas escaping at the surface ensures that optimum use is made of the additive gas.
