Abstract

998,788. Walking sticks. A. J. COLBERT. July 2, 1964 [May 23, 1963], No. 20569/63. Heading A4P. A walking stick, by means of which objects can be picked up from the ground, comprises a curved or straight handle part 12, a tubular metal stem 10 and a finger 16, pivotally mounted on the stem at 22 and connected to a trigger 34 by a wire 28, passing through the stem, for operation against the action of a spring 24. The finger has spaced claws 18 engaging a rubber &c. ferrule 14 under the influence of the spring 24 which passes through the stem. In modifications the trigger is replaced by a ring or similar operating device and the wire passes along the outside of the stem.
