The procedure of Specification 981,508 in which a layer comprising a dye, such as a dye sheet used for mechanical preparation of spirit printing sheets is pressed against a gelatino silver halide emulsion layer bearing an image in silver and hardened geletin to transfer emulsion from the non-hardened areas to the dye layer and then separated is varied at this point by the operation of pressing the dye layer now selectively covered by emulsion against a receiving surface and subsequently separating, to leave the emulsion together with adhering dye on such receiving surface, which may then be used for spirit printing.
