The base 5 of a hollow plastic road marking post is hollow and has a contact surface 14 with an integral locking boss 15 which retains the base in a tubular base section placed in the ground. The base 5 is substantially circular with a flat surface 14 formed with longitudinal ribs 16 of lesser height than the boss 15.
