Abstract

996,684. Shipping containers. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. March 26, 1964, No. 12927/64. Heading B8P. A polygonal shipping container has its side wall 12 formed of plastically deformable material, the wall 12 comprising flat surfaces 11 joined by rounded corners 13, has an internal rib 14 adjacent at least one edge, the edge being reinforced with a metal ring 15 which engages an external groove 16 of the surface 11. The groove 16 is complementary to the internal rib 14. The rib and groove are first formed in the comers 13, either simultaneously or successively, and then in the surfaces 11. A ply base 17 may be secured to the side wall 12 by inserting the base so that it rests on the internal rib 14 and then folding over the end of the side wall. Similarly, a rib and groove may be formed at the top of the wall and a lid 18 inserted, the lid having an opening 19 to facilitate filling and emptying. The container may be made of fibreboard or kraft liner board and may be triangular, hexagonal or octagonal in crosssection.
