A plastics container has the upper part h of the wall thickened to withstand damage which might occur in handling or in lid-fitting operations. The container has a stepped bottom 7 and an enlarged section 6 which may be formed by thickening the wall. The top edge of the wall may be wired, or bent over with an end cover to form a seamed joint. The container may have internal or external ribs.
