996,574. Packages. PROTECTIVE TREATMENT Inc. March 21, 1962 [March 21, 1961], No. 10845/62. Addition to 933,231. Heading B8C. A sealed package containing a roll 60 of sterile surgical drape material comprises a transparent envelope 61 of synthetic plastics material, e.g. polyethylene, nylon or polyvinyl film, heat-sealed at 62 and 63 and folded on itself at 65, the fold 65 being enclosed in a fabric or paper seal 70 which may be secured by a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Perforated or scored lines 73, 74 may be formed along the margins of the seal 70, to aid in tearing the seal open by means of a tear tab 75. The envelope 61 may be in the form of an extruded tube. The interior of the package may be sterilized after sealing by placing it in a vessel which is subjected to vacuum, sterilizing gases permeating the plastics envelope 61 during the process. Steam may also be applied, after opening the seal 70.
