995,381. Carbonating beverages. E. WYER & SONS Ltd. June 25, 1963 [March 29, 1962], No. 12032/62. Heading B1C. A method of making flavoured carbonated beverages includes the step of injecting the syrup in the water before carbonation is complete. As shown, water is injected by an atomizing or shower device 13 into a carbonating column 10 supplied with carbon dioxide through a pipe 11 ; and syrup is injected into the column through two pairs of nozzles 14, 15 and 16, 17 the jets flow from which impinge on one another in the region of the longitudinal axis A of the column. The syrup nozzles are placed above the mid-point of the column and preferably near the top ; there may be two or more groups of nozzles spaced along the column, or a single nozzle and a baffle. The water and syrup are supplied by a proportioning device, e.g. a pump, in a preferred ratio of 5:1; the proportioning device is stopped automatically when the carbonated liquid reaches a level R in the column.
