Abstract

A fuel cell electrode having a matrix of carbon is made by forming a slurry of activated carbon finer than U.S. standard 200 mesh and an aqueous solution of either palladium-chloride or chloroplatinic acid, drying the carbon and depositing it from suspension into the pores of a carbon matrix. The compounds may be reduced by reaction with sodium bicarbonate or by hydrogen. The carbon particles may be retained in the matrix by a permeable coating.
