Abstract

995,029. Wrapping machines. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. Oct. 28, 1963 [Nov. 22, 1962], No. 44222/62. Heading B8C. An article 15 to be wrapped is pushed from a platform 16 by a pusher 17 so as to draw around three sides of it a web 10 of heat sealable wrapping material and pass on to an elevator 11 which is then raised to the position shown so that the web, gripped at the end by rollers 12, 13, is drawn completely round the article; a heated knife 22 then severs the web and forms bead-seals in the overlapping layers of the web along the edge of the article and in joining the bulk 10 of the web to the end gripped by the rollers 12, 13. The web 10, fed from a reel (not shown), is held by rollers 12, 13 and gripped between a bar 21 on the elevator and adjacent clamping bars 19, 20, which advance to clamp overlapping layers of the web against the bar 21. The heated knife 22 then moves to sever the web and form one bead seal in the wrapper surrounding the article and also another in joining that portion of the web gripped by the rollers 12, 13 to that on the reel. Members 19, 20 and 22 are retracted, the article is pushed on to the platform 19 and the elevator lowered to the original level. By means of a depressable member on the elevator, microswitch 27, solenoid 28, pawl 29 and ratchet 30 the web is suitably drawn down by a feed roller 14 to ensure that the bead-seal joining the web on the reel to that held between the rollers 12, 13 is not present in the portion of web folded around the next article.
