Abstract
The invention comprises a sound insulating material hardenable by the addition of water and comprising a mixture of constituents of density D greater than 2 grams per c.c. and constituents of density d less than 1 gram per c.c., said constituents of density D being inorganic filler material together with a cement or like water-hardenable binder and said constituents of density d being filler material together with a synthetic resin binder in which the proportions of said constituents conform to a law of composition expressed by the formula <FORM:0994345/C3/1> in which x represents the proportion by weight of each of the constituents of density D and y represents the proportion by weight of each of the constituents of density d. Specified filler materials of density D are quartz, silica, slag, chalk, kaolin, and talc and of density d are expanded cork, wood and cellulose flour, and sawdust. It is advantageous to maintain the proportion of resin binder, e.g. a vinyl resin, to the cement or like water-hardenable binder in the range of 8 to 12% and preferably to include a methyl-cellulose setting retarder in the sound insulating material. When the material is deposited on its supporting base, e.g. concrete, it is desirable to provide an intermediate binding material between said support and the coating and, when the coating has been laid, to provide a finishing coating of the same composition as the binding material. A specified binding composition has the following composition:- Cement of 2.7 to 3.0 grams/c.c. as 90 to 110 proportions by weight. Quartz or silica of 2.6 to 2.65 grams/c.c. as 200 to 300 proportions by weight. Polyvinyl alcohol of 0.9 grams/c.c. as 7 to 13 proportions by weight.ALSO:Concrete, floorboards or tiles are coated with a sound insulating material hardenable by the addition of water and comprising a mixture of constituents of density D greater than 2 grams per c.c. and constituents of density d less than 1 gram per c.c., said constituents of density D being inorganic filler material together with a cement or like water-hardenable binder and said constituents of density d being filler material together with a synthetic resin binder in which the proportions of said constituents conform to a law of composition expressed by the formula <FORM:0994345/B1-B2/1> in which x represents the proportion by weight of each of the constituents of density D, and y represents the proportion by weight of each of the constituents of density d. Specified filler materials of density D are quartz, silica, slag, chalk, kaolin, and talc, and if density d are expanded cork, wood and cellulose flour, and sawdust. It is advantageous to maintain the proportion of resin binder, e.g. a vinyl resin, to the cement or like water-hardenable binder in the range of 8-12% by weight and preferable to include a methyl-cellulose setting retarder in the sound insulating material. When the material is deposited on the concrete it is desirable to provide an intermediate binding material and, when the coating has been laid, to provide a finishing coating of same composition as the binding material. A specified binding composition has the following composition: cement of 2,7-3,0 gms./c.c. as 90-110 proportions by weight; quartz or silica of 2,6-2,65 gms./c.c. as 200-300 proportions by weight; polyvinyl alcohol of 0,9 gms./c.c. as 7-13 proportions by weight.
