Abstract

994,306. Moulding building blocks. F. & D. M. HEWITT Ltd, and F. HEWITT. March 7, 1962, No. 8837/62. Addition to 903,072. Heading B5A. [Also in Division El] A building construction block as described in the parent Specification is modified, in that a layer 5 of vermiculite concrete is sandwiched between layers 1, 3 of concrete, which form the exposed faces when the block is assembled in a wall, but is otherwise uncovered. The layer 5 comprises 8 parts of exfoliated vermiculite and 1 part cement or sodium silicate, and may be formed as a pre-cast core, which is laid on the wet concrete layer 1 during construction in an open mould and on which layer 3 is laid. Layers 1, 3 incorporate reinforcing iron or steel rods, which project to interlock with rods on other blocks. Alternatively the core may be a container filled with vermiculite concrete and enclosed by concrete on all six sides.
