A device for the continuous recording of the height of the primary combustion cone of the flame of a gas burner 17 comprises a probe tube 18 supplied with air and having a discharge nozzle 20 located in the top of the combustion cone, the throttling effect of the discharge nozzle varying with its temperature to vary the pressure of the air in the probe tube 18 and in a bell 15 disposed in liquid in a container 14 and supporting the burner 17. Pressure air is supplied through a blow-off pressure regulator 4 and a valve 22 to the probe tube 18 and to the bell. When the burner is lit the nozzle of the probe tube is heated and throttles the air so that the pressure in the bell increases and raises the burner 17. The penetration of the nozzle into the flame is thus reduced and consequently the throttling is decreased. If the combustible gas supplied to the burner is varied the position of the bell will change. The position of the bell is recorded by a pivoted pointer 26 and also by a device comprising a valve 28 mounted on a lever 27 and adapted to throttle an air outlet from a spring bellows 36 supplied with pressure air. The pressure in the bellows is recorded by a recorder 34 and can be used to operate pressure regulators. The gas pressure to the burner is maintained constant by a diaphragm regulator 3. The air and gas are mixed in a mixer 10. The flows of gas and air are measured by oblique tube manometers 9 appertaining to measuring devices 7, 8, which can be by-passed by threeway cocks 6. The pressures of air and gas entering the mixing chamber are measured by oblique manometers 9A.
