Abstract

992,698. Syringes. WEYERHAEUSER CO. Aug. 24, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 30588/61. Heading F1R. [Also in Division B8] A container for liquids comprises an outer casing 48 of paperboard, which may be laminated and made moisture-proof, a liner 11 of synthetic plastics material formed from a blank and having a plastics filling neck 17 heat-sealed to it, and end members 22, 55 of paperboard or chipboard. The member 22 has a plastics film 25 bonded to its inner surface. The member 55 may be pushed inwards off its seating to aid in emptying the container. The liner 11 is first formed as a cylinder which is then folded longitudinally to form a bag with open ends. After securing the neck 17 in position, the ends of the bag are heat-sealed, the neck is inserted in the end member 22 which is locked on the neck by an annular shoulder 36, Fig. 9, and the bag is folded longitudinally and transversely beneath the member 22 for insertion as a liner into the casing 48. The blank from which the casing 48 is formed may comprise a layer of asphalt sandwiched between layers of paperboard, and may be divided into longitudinal panels, Fig. 5 (not shown), a glue strip being left at one side to overlap with the opposite side of the blank thereby forming a cylinder, Fig. 7 (not shown). The container is filled under pressure when on its side, the liner unfolding under the force of liquid, and air trapped between the liner and casing 48 escaping round the end members 22, 55. After filling, a dispensing tube 70 with protective case 71 is fitted within a snap-on closure 57 and applied to the neck 17. The tube 70, which is plugged at 74, is folded within a hole in the end member 22 during transport and subsequently cut to dispense the container contents. The closure 57 is of a resilient plastics material, and may have a closed central bore, Figs. 11-12 (not shown), which is cut before insertion of the tube 70. A dispensing tube of polyethylene may be fitted directly on the neck 17, Fig. 13 (not shown).
