Abstract
992,075. Insulation piercing electrical connectors. AMP Inc. Jan. 10, 1964 [Jan. 10, 1963], No. 1166/64. Heading H2E. An electrical connector consists of two ferrule portions 4 and 5, Fig. 1, with insulation piercing lances 13 and 14 and a protuberance 15 to grip the insulation 3. A slot 9 separates the two ferrule portions to allow for extrusion 10 of the insulation, the ferrules 4 and 5 being bellmouthed at 12 with radiused ends 11. The lances 13 and 14 are punched from triangular shaped apertures, Fig. 5 (not shown), in the ferrule portion 5 and the protuberance 15 in the ferrule portion 4 is made of less thickness than the conductor insulation by a pyramid tipped punch in order to avoid penetrating it.
