Abstract

973,394. Cable and wire couplings; terminal blocks. BURNDY CORPORATION. June 21, 1963 [June 28, 1962], No. 24716/63. Heading H2E. A tape cable connector comprises sharpened terminals mounted in a body having opposed surfaces which support the wide top and bottom surfaces of the cable so that the latter is axially aligned with the sharpened terminal ends, which penetrate between the cable conductors and the surrounding insulation. Fig. 5 shows one embodiment in which terminals 27 with wire-securing end portions 28 are located in channels between the two halves of a body 30 having internal tape cable guiding surfaces 31a, 32a and side walls (Fig. 1, not shown) which locate the cable transversely. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the cable 20 is held between insulating blocks 42, 43 having guide projections 44 which are inserted into corresponding slots 45 in a body 40 with printed terminals 51 and flexible arms 41 to snap around blocks 42, 43. Another embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown) provides a connector similar to that of Fig. 5 but with flexible cable-supporting arms, and in a further modification (Fig. 11, not shown) the flexible cable-supporting arms are ridged to grip the cable insulation and the body is extended to enclose the rear ends of the terminals. In any of the embodiments described, the terminals may be flat or of circular cross-section.
