Abstract

The invention comprises 5-acyloxyuracils of formula <FORM:0991988/C2/1> where R is a nitrogen-containing, unreduced heterocyclic ring system of formula <FORM:0991988/C2/2> in which a is -CH= or -N= and b is =CH-CH=, =CH- or =C(CH3)-, e.g. pyridine or pyrazole. They are prepared by acylating 5-hydroxyuracil with RCOX, X being a proton-accepting radical such as chlorine, or a reactive amide group formed from RCOOH and 1,11-dicarbonydimidazole or the corresponding pyrazole, triazole or tetrazole. The products inhibit antibody formation.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions for inhibiting antibody formation comprise 5-acyloxyuracils of formula <FORM:0991988/A5-A6/1> where R is a nitrogen-containing, unreduced heterocyclic ring system of formula <FORM:0991988/A5-A6/2> in which a is -CH= or -N= and b is =CH-CH=, =CH- or =C(CH3)-, e.g. pyridine or pyrazole. The uracils may be combined with 6-substituted purines with anti-immune activity such as 6-mercaptopurine. Oral, parenteral and topical preparations may be formulated, e.g. tablets, capsules, cachets, ampoules, suppositories, powders, granules, solutions, suspensions or ointments.
