Abstract

990,594. Hauling cables. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 17, 1963 [Jan. 4, 1963], No. 498/63. Heading D1T. [Also in Divisions F2 and H1] A hoisting or hauling cable for use in a nuclear reactor charge machine comprises a flexible tube 2 providing a gas duct 3 along the cable, at leat one insulated electrical conductor having a helical lay about the longitudinal axis of the flexible tube and strengthing means also having a helical lay about the longitudinal axis of the tube and providing a substantial part of the tensile strength of the cable. As shown, a helically corrugated flexible metal tube is covered by a braided metal sheath 4 over which are conductors 5 each comprising a single or multiple strand wire 6 coated with insulating material 7, e.g. magnesia, and sheathed with a stainless steel tube 8. The latter carries a single or multiple layer of helically wound wire strands 9.
